House Music gives you a feeling that you can only explain it when your feeling those soulful groovy vibes. In the Halifax Nova Scotia Veev represents that feeling by giving us funky music thru his sets and tracks.  Already a veteran in the Halifax scene he has also played in places like Ibiza and Miami where the experience is much warm than Canada (literally). With his new LP out on Disco Legends we asked a few question about his music and being a house producer in the Atlantic side.

1- Where do you feel more comfortable djing or producing?

Well, Djing I feel more most comfortable in front of lots of people, the more the better. To have all their positive vibes and energy in the club when I’m playing makes Djing an absolute treat. The more I get from the audience the more I can give back, which in return makes for a very comfortable time. As far as producing goes, I feel the most comfortable in my own studio. I know my sound system and how it relates to other systems i.e. clubs/bars/cars/ etc. My hardware is all where I want it to be, I got my Vapor Juice selection close by. Its just my personally space that I have made to suit my needs.Plus my beer fridge is always close by.

2- What have you learned from playing your music in other places outside of Canada?

I guess I learned that I always need to make a wide range in music to appeal to other areas outside of Canada that might not necessarily like what is popular here. I have learned that playing my music for a club filled with people I don’t know and they don’t know me and having them dance and have a great time to my music is one of the sweetest joys of making music. To go somewhere where I am not from and have them be so accepting to me and my music is what’s makes the long hours worth it. Uniting everyone into a positive dance of inclusion with House is fantastic.

3- What do you think are your best tracks so far?

That’s a tough one, my newest LP on Disco Legends has a few on there that I really enjoy from a listening standpoint and a production standpoint. Such as, Not Afraid, Ancienne Amie, Your Show, Mantel, French Fries. Some of my older work is some of my best as well my House Warming EP on Juiced Music, Believe The Getaway EP on Farris Wheel Recordings, Circle Of Friends EP on Pocket Jacks Trax. As I think back on it there are too many to name because I really enjoy all of my music I have made for many different reasons. Though my tracks that I am currently working on I feel is my best work, it has some live vocalists on the tracks and is real Soulful House vibe.

4- Tell us about your new LP?

My newest Lp is one I have been excited to release for some time now. Its 8 tracks and on the Las Vegas NV. based label, Disco Legends. The album features sounds that take Disco House back into the French Filter House side of things. The LP has House, Disco House, French House, Jackin House, Soulful House, and Nu-Disco tracks on it. It has been getting unbelievable support from some of the biggest names in house. A lot of work went into this album and I am very pleased with the way it turned out. It received a Big front page feature in Jackin House on Traxsource as well as a static feature on the front page. With the LP only being released a few days ago, 4 of the tracks are already making appearances in the Top 100 Jackin House and as well as being Charted by Artist’s and Traxsource.

5- Being in this scene for a while where do you think house music fits in the Atlantic Canada Scene?

If you go back a little over a decade ago House in Atlantic Canada fit amazing! The vibe here was thick and proper! The scene for real house kind of slipped away with the party goers at the time as they got older or had to slow down due to jobs and families. All perfectly legitimate reasons. Though right now with the help of the party goers of the late 90’s that are still very much so present in the House scene now, we were able to rejuvenate the house scene. Although it never quite went away, the parties seemed to loose steam. Clubs and promoters went in a direction where it was more appealing to the mass amounts of students. Over the past few years there was been a massive spike in interest in House. So it fits in Atlantic Canada, but like most things comes and go’s in waves. I feel we are just on the start of a new rise for House in Atlantic Canada. There are so many amazing House producers and Dj’s in Atlantic Canada it is impossible to name them all. I have traveled to many places playing House, such as Ibiza and Miami and many other areas. But the talent right here in Atlantic Canada for House producers/dj’s is top notch world class. So with that in mind its hard to say that House does not fit here. The way I see it is, that with all these great artists playing/making house right here in Atlantic Canada there will always be House here and Atlantic Canada really has no say in the matter. The true artist’s of House will always make sure it fits.

6- Where do you see your music in the next few years?

Next few years, wow. Well there is many things I hope to see with my music, but all I can do is work to achieve them. I see myself making a lot more Vocal House and Soulful House working with other artists such as vocalists. While still be making lots of Disco, Jackin, and French House. Also by then I will have launched my alter ego productions as Melton John the Acid House producer. If everything continues to climb as it has the past few years I will be very grateful and pleased with myself. I just have to stay positive, grateful and put in the work. Then we will see where my music is in the next few years 🙂
